As an avid Barbel angler when I heard Carl had started his own Custom rod building business I couldn’t resist enquiring if he could build a specialist barbel rod. After a couple of meetings a few weeks later Carl had custom built a rod based on the “Harrison Ballista” blank customised to my own personal specification and at a competitive price.
I am now the proud owner of a one off, purpose built “hook and hold” barbel rod (10ft 1.75tc) well balanced, professionally finished, personalised rod specially for me, for hard fighting Kennett Barbel. It doesn’t just look good - its performance too has been excellent - after just a few weeks the rod has handled numerous fish just shy of double figures plus a personal best Chubb of 6lb 8oz!
Carl has built a unique rod that takes pride of place amongst my fishing tackle and I look forward to seeing that rod tip twitch to many more bites.

"This season I joined a new syndicate that had two 4 acre lakes on it, these were much smaller than I had been fishing so I needed a new set of rods to cope with the demands of small pit carping. My pride and joy North Westerns had been long used, with a broken tip ring on one, and spigots that went all the way down and still wobbled, they were only kept for sentimental reasons. As soon as I knew Carl had started building rods, I was first in the queue. The best bit was that these were Carl’s old rods, brought for a mates deal about 15 years ago! Carl took the rods away and had them finished in only a few days. Having trimmed the blanks for a secure fit, new rings and butt end caps, they were customized with my name and the top finish you would expect from custom rods. To say I pleased is an understatement. My old rods customized and made ‘mint’ for a second time in their life. Cheers Carl, these rods are the nuts, and will live on for many years to come.

Over the years I have got in contact with Carl to make repairs on my rods and so when I was in need of a new set of rods I knew where to go. After receiving Carls expert opionon I decided to go for 12ft 3lb Ballista Classics as Iam fishing close to medium range. Since using my new rods I am able to hit 100 yards comfortably. I enclose a photo of my latest PB common which was caught with these rods. All I can say is that they are awesome and look fantastic, cheers Carl nice doing business with you, I know where to go for my next set.

Just a few words to let you know how I am getting on with the new rods. As you know I was recommended to you by a friend, and after speaking to you on the phone you put me on the right path as to what rod l would need. I went with the 10ft stalking, which was brought for me by my grandaughters for my birthday and you even let them write `grandad‘ on the rod before it was finished. Since owning my new rod I have caught a lovely 19lb Carp and I’m off Barbel fishing next week so i‘ll let you know how l get on. I would recommend anyone who wants a custom built to go to CT Custom Built.
